Support from providers outside our school

Our school works closely with families to make sure every child gets the support they need to learn and thrive. Sometimes this means bringing in specialist providers from outside our school, such as therapists funded by the NDIS or other programs.

These external providers do not have an automatic right to come into our school. Any request must come from a parent or carer in writing so we can make sure the support is safe, appropriate, and in the best interest of the student.

Ongoing therapy sessions conducted by third party providers are scheduled at 12:30pm and 2:00pm, each session is a maximum of 45 minutes. These session times are made available to accommodate for student critical learning times and play time. Due to the volume of requests please ensure that your paperwork is in order, the usual wait time for scheduling an appointment is two weeks.

What does outside support mean?

Outside support means getting extra help for your child from people who are not part of our school. This can include:

This support works with what our school already provides, to meet your child’s needs.

How the process works for parents and carers

1. Parent or carer request
Parents or carers fill in our external provider request form and give it to our school.
2. School review
Our school reviews the request. If we agree, we will contact the provider for documents.
3. Approval
Once everything is ready, our school will set a time for sessions to begin. Support cannot start until we give approval.
4. Annual review
This process must be repeated at the start of each school year.

Visiting the school

After an approval has been provided by the school and your session has been scheduled it's time for your visit. Street parking is available on Alexander Street and we ask all external providers to ring the buzzer and enter via the front gate near the pedestrian crossing.

1. Visit the office
All external providers must sign in via the QR Code and sign their student's register at the beginning of every visit. If it is your first time visiting Bligh Park Public School the administrative staff will provide you with your induction information.
2. Collect room keys
External providers have their own spaces outside of the classroom designated for therapy sessions, these keys are available from the office.
3. Meet the student
External providers meet the student at their classroom to take them to their session and then back to the classroom at the end of their session.
4. Return keys to the front office
After your student has been taken back to class, please return the keys to the front office and sign out via the NSW Services app.

If there are any changes to your scheduled times please contact us in writing.
